Owner Penny Kring Receives Merits

Owner Penny (Heath) Kring recently competed in a photography competition hosted by Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Penny has been a member of PPA for 17 years. The International Photographic Competition (IPC) is held annually, and members may submit several works to be scored by a panel of judges.

Two of the images Penny submitted in this year’s competition received scores deserving of a Merit. Pale Beauty and The Next Generation were critiqued on how well they meet the organization’s standards for a merit image. Penny says that “competing really helps me to improve my art,” and believes that learning is a life-long journey that she loves.

Community Work

Heath Photography recently completed a charity fundraiser that we do once a year.  We shoot $10 sessions, and then donate the session fees to the Backpack Club at Alexandria Central School in Alexandria Bay, NY.  The Backpack Club sends food for the weekend home to needy households, in student backpacks.  In this photo: Penny Heath presents the Heath fundraiser proceeds to Patty Durand, who is one of the directors of the club along with Terry Satterley.

Maine Trip!

A few weeks ago, I planned a trip to take my husband, his mom and dad, and our son Logan to the ocean, as a thank-you to them for all the work they did when we were building our house. Gene spent a year on the project, if not longer.  His mom and dad were always helping, too, diligently painting and doing other work.  I knew Gene would really like going on a fishing trip– and when I invited his mom and dad, they said to count them in.  At Vinalhaven Island; we got to go lobster-fishing with a seventh-generation lobsterman (our sternman was named Landon).  Our hosts with the most, who rented us a cabin, were Charlie and Rusty Warren. Everybody had a blast! All of us just really enjoyed ourselves. Here are a couple of videos and photos.

Heath Photography Gets an Intern

Penny Heath has been in the portrait business for over 25 years and is always willing to share her knowledge of the industry with other photographers. In these behind the scene pictures from a senior photo session, we see Renee Bartlett – Patterson an aspiring photographer from Clayton assisting with holding props and reflectors.

Here is what Renee has to say about her experiences here at Heath Photography:
“I was researching photographers in the area and came across Heath Photography. I have seen Penny’s work on her website and facbook, and I watched a short clip on youtube of a baby being photographed while hanging in a large scarf, and was impressed on how they accomplished it without waking the baby!  I was given the opportunity by Penny to intern and learn about portrait photography.  I have assisted setting up and adjusting lighting and backdrops for the specific shoot.   It has been interesting learning the different posses for a senior, family or a baby shoot.  I enjoy doing outdoor portraits in the summer and learning how to diffuse or reflect the light with a reflector.  Penny is a talented photographer that I learn from everyday.”
